Beginning the week of September 22, 2014, Harlandale ISD will be launching its new Gifted and Talented (GT) Program titled Ingenium Magnet Experience (I-MEx).
Ingenium is a rigorous activity, project, and problem-based program in which students use structured approaches, such as the engineering design process and scientific method. Students employ skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity as they solve relevant, real-world problems. They apply STEM knowledge, skills, and habits of mind, learning that it is OK to take risks and make mistakes. As teachers and students learn and discover together, education becomes far more engaging. Students demonstrate their knowledge throughout the course by completing activities, projects, and problems using a variety of assessment tools, such as performance rubrics and reflective questioning, to deepen and expand their knowledge and skills.
Students, who have been identified as GT, will be attending the Ingenium Magnet Experience from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at one of the four campuses identified as Ingenium Destinations. (Please note that students attending Ingenium at a campus different from their home campus will be bussed to the Ingenium site.) In order to participate in the program, an Ingenium Magnet Experience Enrollment Form must be completed and returned to the front office at their home campus.
We are excited about this unique program being offered in Harlandale I.S.D. Please feel free to contact the Harlandale ISD GT Facilitators, Michelle Moreno at 210-989-4487 and/or Charles Hernandez at 210-989-4368, if you have any questions or concerns.
