The Harlandale community was more than ready for the 48th Annual Frontier Bowl on November 4, 2011 at Harlandale Memorial Stadium. It’s the longest running high school football bowl game in the city. Harlandale was aiming to end their season on a high note while McCollum was looking to obtain sole possession of third place in 28-4A.
When the clock hit triple zeros in the 4th quarter, McCollum came away with a 33-6 win over their longtime rivals. McCollum HS has now evened the number of victories between the two teams with each having 23 wins and two ties.
The week of the game, Frontier Bowl spirit could be seen throughout the Harlandale ISD with community members sporting their school colors and this year’s Frontier Bowl t-shirts. Decorations representing both teams could be seen in many classrooms, offices and even in school buses. Pre-game festivities began with the Harlandale Hall of Fame Ceremony, which honors the eight individuals who were recently inducted amongst the district’s most prestigious alumni and community members.
The next Frontier Bowl will take place Friday, November 9, 2012.
