January is considered School Board Recognition Month and the Harlandale ISD thanked its Board of Trustees with a special dinner on January 22. McCollum High School senior Alyxandriah Bermea and junior Richard Bustillo hosted the evening’s festivities and got the crowd in a fun-loving, spirited mode by singing “This little board of mine” to the tune of “This little light of mine.” Board members, their spouses, administrators and principals also got to listen to the sounds of Sonidos de Alegria, the district’s mariachi group, while dining on a three course meal prepared by Chef John Stewart and students from the Culinary Arts program.
After dinner, Interim Superintendent Rey Madrigal addressed the School Board, recognizing them for the important roles they play in shaping the district’s many programs, improvements, and direction. He also presented each one with a small gift of appreciation, a button up polo shirt with the Harlandale ISD logo.
Each trustee was honored again and presented with a certificate at the regularly scheduled School Board meeting. It took place in the cafeteria at MHS, following the dinner.
