“All my friends thought it was an actual theme park at first,” said Leal Middle School 8th grader Chris Montez about the Junior Achievement Finance Park. Chris and his teacher, Ray Garza, were talking all about their experiences at the park to nearly 200 guests at the San Antonio Business Hall of Fame on April 1 at the Marriott Rivercenter.
Mr. Garza highlighted the skills students learned at the park and Chris explained how it helped him with his home life. “I learned how to budget my money and help my mom try and save money and write it down to know where it’s going and who it’s going to.”
The Junior Achievement Finance Park is funded by Capital One and offers financial classes to middle and high school students. It also sponsored the Hall of Fame. Inducted this year were Major General Joe Robles, USAA President and CEO; Ed Kelley, retired CEO of USAA Real Estate Company; and G. Jim and Jimmy Hasslocher of Frontier Enterprises.
