36th Annual Cultural Arts Festival

  The 36th Annual Cultural Arts parade on Saturday, September 17 was a record-breaker. More than 5,000 people watched the lineup wind down from Mission San Jose to the Harlandale Memorial Stadium. Another 1,200 students and staff actually took part in the walking groups, vehicles and floats.  It was up to three individuals – a district administrator, judge and bank manger – to decide which groups were the best of the best. And the winners are:

 

o       Best ES Spirit Group: Gilbert ES Mustang Cheerleaders

o       Best HS Spirit Group: McCollum HS Gold Stars Dance Team

o       Best ES Music Group: Morrill ES Drumline

o       Best MS Music Group: Kingsborough MS Knight Band

o       Best HS Music Group: Harlandale HS Band

o       Best ES Walking Group: Carroll Bell ES Cowboys

o       Best MS Walking Group: Terrell Wells MS Boys & Girls Athletics

o       Best HS Walking Group: Harlandale HS Administrative Team

o       Best ES Vehicle: Carroll Bell ES Teacher of the Year

o       Best HS Vehicle: McCollum HS Administrative Team

o       Best ES Float: Rayburn ES Panthers are Sun-sational

o       Best MS Float: Kingsborough MS Knights

o       Best HS Float: McCollum HS School of Leadership

o       Best Decorated Food Booth: Gillette ES PTA

 

Once everyone arrived at the stadium grounds for the fair, it was time for students to show off their talents. Here are the performance winners:

 

·         Best ES Group Dance

o   1st-Gilbert Dancers, Gilbert ES

o   2nd-Los Bailarines de Mrs. Cordova, Carroll Bell ES

o   3rd-All Stars, Wright ES

·         Best MS Group Dance

o   1st-Memory Makers, KMS

·         Best ES Poem Solo

o   1st-Maylyn Lesher, Wright ES

o   2nd-Clarisa Duran, Wright ES

o   3rd-Ashlyn Camarillo, Wright ES

o   Honorable Mention-Jose Saenz, Wright ES

·         Best ES Song Solo

o   1st-Bryanna Rich, Carroll Bell ES

o   2nd-Tristine Vidal, Carroll Bell ES

o   3rd-Tiaina Medina, Morrill ES

o   Honorable Mention-Zachariah Saiz, Schulze ES

·         Best MS Song Solo

o   1st-Miranda Rich, TWMS

o   2nd-Brandon Walston, KMS

o   3rd-Joey Vielma, HMS

o   Honorable Mention-Diamond Fuentes, TWMS

·         Best ES Song & Dance

o   1st-Miranda Saiz, Schulze ES

·         Best ES Musical

o   1st-Cast of Freedom, Collier ES

 

Every 1st place group or soloist receives a trophy. Second, third and Honorable Mention winners receive a ribbon.

o   4th (tie) - Ricardo Lopez III & Julian Herrera (HMS)
