While some recent high school graduates were sleeping in late, a small group of seniors had to wake up early and work hard just to catch up. Wednesday, August 22, six seniors from all three high schools – Frank Tejeda Academy, Harlandale High School and McCollum High School – gathered in the Boggess Center to finally walk the stage and receive their high school diploma. They, along with five other students who could not attend the ceremony, were set back for several reasons but they all are determined to set out on a better path. Each one talked about attending a local college and earning a degree.
News of their college choice came as a surprise and a relief to some parents. One mom said her son didn’t talk about the future much but now that he’s accomplished this goal, she hopes he will open up more.
The 2012 summer graduating class may have been one of the smallest in the last few years, but you couldn’t tell by the thunderous applause family and friends gave every single graduate.
