Carroll Bell students visit HEB

View more pictures

Huddled together inside an HEB you would usually find children walking around with their parents, but these children were there for an entirely different reason. First graders from Carroll Bell Elementary Dual Language class were invited to a reading from Elizabeth Stamper and Kate Rodgers of HEB as part of the Read 3 program they sponsor. The students were treated to a reading of four books by the two ladies. As they read along, the students were invited to participate in some of the actions that were part of the stories. After the stories, Interim Superintendent Mr. Madrigal spoke with the children about the importance of reading and expressed gratitude toward HEB for inviting the students to participate with the group. H.E. Buddy the HEB mascot took pictures with all the students as each one received a snack bag with a pencil, cereal bar, and some fruit. Read 3 is a program that was designed to encourage the development of reading skills in children by providing them with books to read and encouraging parents to read with their child at least 3 times a week.
