Helping out at the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

Twenty-five thousand runners took part in the 5th Annual Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio marathon, half marathon and bike race on Sunday, November 11. Part of that crowd included some Harlandale ISD administrators, Central Office staff, teachers and coaches. Hundreds more people were along the sidelines, including even more HISD personnel and students who were there to work and lend a hand.

Harlandale High School’s Gamma Sigma Girls and a few students from other schools helped set up hundreds of water and Gatorade cups at the 16 mile mark in front of Mission Concepcion. They cheered on the cyclists and runners while handing them a drink. Southside United Against a Violent Environment (SUAVE) volunteered to handle that area and the kids and you could tell it was not their first go around. The group set up folding chairs, tables, and a big barbecue pit to feed everyone breakfast and lunch.
