Smoke from barbecue pits still lingered in the air as thousands of fans filled Harlandale Memorial Stadium for the 49th Annual Frontier Bowl on Friday, November 9. Fans started ‘cuing it up as early as 8:00 a.m. and the game itself – the oldest high school bowl game rivalry – lived up to the hype.
The Harlandale Indians already had the playoffs on their minds, but the McCollum Cowboys were hoping to send them in with another loss. That almost happened. Both teams battled it out on the gridiron with Harlandale taking the early lead but McCollum fought back and forced the double overtime. The final score was 43-36, ending the season for MHS with a record of 3-7.
HHS (8-2) will face the Victoria East Titans in the first round of the playoffs on Friday November 16 at Harlandlae Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. You can purchase tickets in the Athletics Office, 1201 96th Street, Monday-Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
