Some families within the Harlandale ISD have a few more reasons to be thankful this time of year. The San Antonio Food Bank and KRAFT partnered up for a special giveaway at Kingsborough Middle School Tuesday, November 13. Parents and their children braved the colder weather and waited in line for their chance to get some fresh produce, milk and other perishable items for free.
“It’s Thanksgiving, you get to see those smiles and that’s what it’s all about” said Michael Guerra, Chief Development Officer at the S.A. Food Bank.
The SA Food Bank was also proud to show off its new mobile pantry thanks to a generous donation from KRAFT. The new vehicle is the third truck in the fleet and allows the organization to take food to struggling families in rural areas. It can carry enough food to feed roughly 300 people with up to 55 pounds of food each.
Volunteers from Kingsborough Middle School, Frank Tejeda Academy staff and students, the San Antonio Food Bank, and Kraft were all on hand to assist families and the elderly in collecting and transporting their food to their vehicles.
