Pomp and Circumstance was playing at the Boggess Center November 29 but this was not your regular high school graduation. It was a special graduation-type ceremony for four-year-olds taking part in H-E-B’s Read 3 program. There were no caps and gowns, but each young student did receive a certificate, medal, backpack and t-shirt. They also had a table full of free books from which to choose. The books were donated by the Boy Scouts at Adams Elementary School.
H-E-B first partnered with Harlandale ISD last year to help young children learn to read and encourage their parents to read to them at least three times a week.
“Every time we go to H-E-B they (sons) ask us for a lot of books” said Gabriel, father of two twin boys who were graduating from the program, “She (wife) reads to them every night.”
