School choirs spread holiday cheer

View more pictures

Harlandale ISD students are singing about the most wonderful time of the year. Holiday concerts are an annual tradition at Harlandale ISD and, so far this year, kids from the elementary schools have put on heartfelt, energetic performances.

Families packed into the Boggess Center December 4 to enjoy concerts by Morrill, Collier, Rayburn and Gillette elementary schools. A day later, parents also showed up to hear the Bellaire, Carroll Bell, Wright and Vestal choirs sing. December 6, Schulze, Stonewall Flanders and Gilbert elementaries performed. To help get the crowd in the Christmas spirit, the Harlandale Harmonics, a four-member band made up of HISD choir directors Oscar Castro, Raul Ochoa, Patrick Schulze and Leo Zepeda, played “A Christmas Carol Prelude.”

A special thank you goes out to all the families for their support, the students performers and musicians for their enthusiasm and the choir directors for their excellence. The choir directors are:

  • Angela Velasquez, Bellaire ES
  • Margaret Villanueva, Carroll Bell ES
  • Raul Ochoa, Wright ES
  • Alex Gil, Vestal ES
  • Oscar Castro, Morrill ES
  • Jennifer Alfaro, Collier ES
  • Danielle Farris, Rayburn ES
  • Leo Zepeda, Gillette ES
  • Partick Schultz, Schulze ES
  • Evan Lavender, Stonewall Flanders ES
  • Robert De La Garza, Gilbert ES
