School Board members strengthen their team

Missing from photo Joshua Cerna

Training, team building and continuing their education are the reasons why the Harlandale ISD Board of Trustees recently gave up one of their Saturday mornings. All seven School Board members, along with Interim Superintendent Rey Madrigal, met at the Mission Branch Library on December 8. Dr. Sylvester Perez, Interim Superintendent at San Antonio ISD, served as the facilitator. Together the group sat through a presentation, talked through scenarios and strengthened their ability to make decisions as a team. The training is part of annual requirement.

The Harlandale ISD Board of Trustees proudly serves more than 15,000 students, their families and the community. The members are:

·         David Abundis, President, District 4

·         Zeke Mendoza, Vice President, District 3

·         Velma Ybarra, Secretary, District 5

·         Jesse “Jay” Alaniz, District 7

·         Anthony Alcoser, District 6

·         Joshua Cerna, District 1

·         Tomas Uresti, District 2

Dr. Perez is an alumnus of the Harlandale ISD and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999. His career includes 38 years as an educator throughout Texas. He has been the Superintendent in Mathis, Clint, San Marcos and Midland school districts, and was also a principal, assistant principal, athletics director, coach and teacher.
