The Leal Middle School 8th grade boys’ soccer team has something to celebrate as they finish off conference play with an undefeated record of 6-0. On December 22, the boys also took part in a tournament at Mata Stadium and walked away with the championship title, but it wasn’t easy. They faced off in three matches that each that tested the team’s ability to work together. The first match was against Matthey Middle School and ended in a sudden death shootout with Leal winning 3-2. Then they faced McAuliffe Middle School. The Apaches walked away with a 2-1 victory over the Rockets. The championship game was against the McNair Challengers which was the only team to beat the Apaches in non-conference play this season. Leal was able to defeat them, shutting out the Challengers 2-0.
“The team’s success was a result of their ability to come together and work as one team, and their perseverance,” said Coach Javier Martinez.
