The students at Harlandale Middle School are taking part in Olive Garden’s “Pasta for Pennies" campaign. It is a service-learning, character, education program that gives students a unique experience to raise money to help fight blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and Hodgkin's Disease.
To help kickoff the campaign, a guest speaker from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) spoke to students about healthy blood cells and blood diseases. "Captain Chemo" even raced into the room and saved the day by removing the fake cancer cells.
Now through March 8, students will be collecting spare change. Then, the top fundraising advisory will receive a pasta lunch from Olive Garden.
Last year, Harlandale Middle School students and staff were able to collect and donate almost $3,000 dollars. This year’s goal is $4,000 dollars. All the money raised will go toward treatment, support services, and research to help fight deadly blood cancers.
