Students at the Scheh Center got an introduction to life after high school during their 3rd Annual Career Fair on February 26. School Counselor Victoria Bustos helped organize the event, inviting more than 25 exhibitors coming from career, college, and social service agencies across Bexar County. Students were able to speak with presenters from the San Antonio Police Department and U.S. Coast Guard, just to name a few. They also go to learn about the Alamo Colleges Aviation Technology program and tour the ambulance used for its EMS degree program.
“The whole mission of our career day is to reinforce the notion that our students have made mistakes and some have fallen through the cracks but they are still in school and there are still opportunities for their future,” said Ms. Bustos.
The teens also got a sneak peek at what their life could be like if they returned to a traditional high school. On hand to give them options for extracurricular activities was Sam Lerma, Film Teacher at Harlandale HS as well as Mario Garcia, Journalism Teacher at McCollum HS and Willie Thomas, Graphic Arts Teacher at McCollum as well.
