“Are you going to give us helicopter rides?,” asked a first grader as he and fellow classmates surrounded Officers Tony Garcia and Clint Tiller of the San Antonio Police Department’s Blue Eagles. The helicopter unit regularly assists officers on the ground but February 28, two of their own were part of Adams Elementary’s Career Day, an event that has been going on for well over 10 years.

“We started including all grade levels about three years ago,” said Jennifer Montes, school counselor. “Some speakers come back year after year, and even if they don’t come to their room, the students are just excited to see them again.”

The Blue Eagle landing was a big hit with students but they were treated to another special visitor. King Rey Feo, Larry Benson Sr. of Ingram Park Auto Center, and his royal court showed up. He spoke to the students about the history of the Fiesta King and how education plays an important role in his life now. He said it was his desire to make sure all students had every opportunity to go to college and that he would be raising money for educational programs around the city.

Other professionals who made themselves accessible to our students were Hector Ledezma, Fox 29 Sport Anchor, a district attorney, members of the San Antonio Fire Department, the San Antonio bomb squad and constables.
