“This school has changed so much.”
“I can’t believe how clean it is.”
“I don’t remember lunch tasting this good.”
Those were just some of the comments made during Harlandale ISD’s School Bus Tours on February 27. Parents, grandparents and community members were invited to board a bus and tour six different campuses in honor of Celebrate Texas Public Schools (CTPS) Week. Visitors had the opportunity to sit in on a dual language lesson in action, walk through the new band hall at McCollum High School, and watch one of the award-wining projects by the Film School at Harlandale High School. The tour ended with a free enchilada lunch at Rayburn Elementary School provided by the Harlandale Masonic Lodge #1213.
Celebrate Texas Public Schools Week, formerly known as Texas Public Schools Week, was established in 1950 by the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas to show visible support of public education. It traditionally takes place the first full week of March to coincide with the anniversary of the Texas Declaration of Independence which was March 2, 1836, but Harlandale ISD moved up the celebration one week because of testing.
