Knights rise to the top

The 8th grade boys’ basketball team from Kingsborough Middle School is celebrating a flawless season. The Knights took first place at the Big 16 Conference Basketball Tournament held at Southwest High School March 2. Under the tutelage of coaches Paul Gorham and Cip Balles, Santiago Vasquez led the charge for the team with 30 points in the championship game. Three other players were also in the double digits. Darrian Ovalle scored 20 points, Noe Jimenez put up 18, and Roger Martinez was good for 12. Out of the eight teams that competed in the tournament, KMS walked off the court with a perfect ending to their season and an 11-0 record. The 12-member team is the first to bring home the 8th grade basketball championship to Kingsborough.
