HHS alum receives Army scholarship

Former Harlandale Indian Inez Beltran, class of 2012, was recently named as a recipient of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Scholarship in the amount of $60,885. Inez is currently attending the University of Texas at San Antonio where he is studying Computer Science. He received the scholarship from Major General Jeff Smith, U. S. Army Cadet Command, during the American Association of Hispanics for Higher Education National Conference in San Antonio on March 30th.

Inez was a member of Harlandale’s JROTC all four years of his high school career and rose to the rank of battalion commander of his unit. He was also a leader of the color guard, member of the rifle and drill team, and member of the saber guard. Outside school, Beltran was an Eagle Scout and still holds a black belt in karate.
