Schulze holds balloon release

View more pictures

The sky over Schulze Elementary turned purple Friday in honor of cancer patients loved by students at the school. It was all part of a fundraising event held May 3 to kick off the Relay for Life. Students were able to purchase a balloon for $1 and attach the name of a family member who is or has battled cancer. In total, about 400 balloons were sold and all the money raised will benefit the American Cancer Society. The balloons themselves were released around 2:00 p.m., five hours before the relay kicks off at Harlandale Memorial Stadium. It will run through 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4.
