Michael Pfeuffer. That was the latest name added to Harlandale ISD’S War Memorial during the Memorial Day Ceremony on May 27. Pfeuffer was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968 but his widow just recently contacted the district about his sacrifice. His name is among 95 listed on the memorial which pays tribute to former HISD students who gave their lives for freedom. The ceremony included a reading of all those names.
About 100 people, including family members, friends and veterans, were in attendance Monday morning to honor the fallen and it was current students who helped set the tone for the ceremony. Alyx Bermea, senior at McCollum High School, and William LaPoint, junior at Harlandale High School, emceed. MHS junior Richard Bustillo sang the National Anthem and HHS alumnus Bryan Duron played Taps.
The Harlandale War Memorial was established in 1971. It sits at the entrance to the Harlandale Memorial Stadium.
