The Jewel Wietzel Center helds its first Motor Activities Training Program (MATP) Awards Ceremony on May 29th. Students were awarded medals for accomplishing a specific goal like reaching for and touching a basketball to riding a tricycle through an obstacle course. The students had worked towards the goals during their PE time throughout the year and were tested May 13th and 14th.
MATP is designed for people with severe disabilities whose physical and/or behavioral limitations do not allow them to take part in traditional Special Olympics competitions. MATP emphasizes training and participation rather than competition and it allows students to participate in recreational activities geared to their ability level.
