It was their first day back on campus but some Harlandale ISD teachers didn’t spend much time there.
At Rayburn Elementary, the morning of August 14 started like every other teacher return day. Principal Cody Miller and Academic Coordinator Faith Molina were greeting everyone as they walked in; teachers were smiling, talking and hugging after not seeing each other for a couple of months; and the entire campus was meeting in the science lab.
After a welcome, some introductions and a discussion about “The Energy Bus,” Dr. Miller asked his staff something most administrators fear, “Does anyone really want to go over the handbook today?”
After a resounding “no,” Ms. Molina suggested that she preferred to go shopping.
So, off they went.
To their surprise, Dr. Miller and Ms. Molina had secretly planned an outing. A school bus was waiting for them outside and all teachers were given $100 to spend on classroom supplies at Learning Zone.
The fun didn’t end there. After a couple of hours browsing aisle by aisle, Rayburn’s teachers were taken to lunch at Luby’s. Then after a leisurely lunch and time to catch up with each other, they headed to Convocation.
It was a teacher return day like no other. They were learning and growing together, and really understanding the valuable lessons about “The Energy Bus.”
