The new school year is underway and two organizations have stepped up to help students prepare for class. The SA YES Foundation and the American Legion Post 485 recently delivered school supplies to students at two Harlandale ISD schools.

The SA YES Foundation gifted a total of 31,000 packs of school supplies to elementary students all across South Texas, including to children at Morrill Elementary. SA Yes representatives along with a Hello Kitty and Madagascar’s Alex the Lion mascot made the special delivery August 27. Students received a packet containing pens, paper, pencils, and other classroom items.

The American Legion Post 485 visited Stonewall Flanders Elementary a day later to hand out supplies to the second graders. Commander Jose Martinez also took time to talk with the students about veterans and appreciating the sacrifices of others. Several students mentioned how some of their own family members were in the military and what that means to them.
