To many students summer is a distant memory by now, but for Kina Rodriguez of Leal Middle School and Francisco Hernandez III of Stonewall Flanders Elementary, they are still carrying with them what they learned at the 2013 Lone Star Leadership Academy, a camp hosted by Education in Action.
The spring and summer camp brought together students from across Texas who demonstrated academic success and leadership abilities. The students were given opportunities to develop and hone their leadership skills while learning about historical, political, scientific, and environmentally significant sites and venues across the Lone Star state. They visited sites like the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, the Texas State Capitol and watched bats fly out from under the Congress Street bridge. Each experience allowed students to utilize their problem-solving and decision-making skills, exercise their creativity and practice presentation their skills.
