The goal was 800 pairs of socks, but when Girl Scout members stopped counting, they were well above that number. Troop #962 set out to collect silly socks for children in need and Harlandale ISD really came through. A total of 1,026 pairs were donated. Some of the socks were colorful, others had shapes or cartoon characters but all of them are sure to bring a smile to the faces of patients at the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. The socks will be delivered Saturday, December 7.
A special thank you goes out to the schools and department who collected the socks, including Schulze Elementary, Bellaire Elementary, Carroll Bell Elementary, Kingsborough Middle School, Central Office and St. Luke’s Private School.
The same troopheld a food drive in October, going door to door around Schulze ES. They collected over 400 pounds of non-perishable items for the Mayfield Baptist Church food pantry. The girls also created 43 of the place mats used at the annual Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner.
