Leal Middle School got a real life lesson in politics on February 13. Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis stopped by the school to tout her education plan. The State Senator from Fort Worth praised Harlandale ISD for all its educational initiatives, including touching the lives of young children who are part of the pre-kindergarten program.
Loretta Lozano, a mother of six, knows all about the importance of early childhood education. All six of her kids attended PK in Harlandale, one grandchild is currently a PK-4 student and two more are set to begin the program next year.
“I truly believe my kids have been successful because they learned about school and how to read when they were really little,” said Lozano, prior to sitting in on the Davis press conference.
She was one of more than a dozen parents, community members, administrators HISD Board members and students who listened to the candidate live. Many of Davis’ political supporters were also on hand, including State Senator Leticia Van de Putte and Carlos Uresti, State Representative Joe Farias, Mayor Julian Castro, and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff. Davis is facing Greg Abbott in the race for Governor.
