Motivational speaker inspires Harlandale MS students

Harlandale Middle School wrapped up Red Ribbon Week with an inspiring message from internationally recognized youth motivational speaker Gabe Salazar on Oct. 31.

Salazar spent the morning encouraging students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade to make positive choices in their lives.

“We are recognizing and paying tribute to the fight against drugs and anti-bullying during this Red Ribbon Week and felt our students would benefit from hearing this message,” HMS Counselor Kristie Lopez said.

The students listened intently as Salazar spoke to them about bullying, drugs and everyday life.

“We feel he was able to inspire and motivate our students throughout the use of his humor and real life situations,” Lopez said.

Many of the students stayed behind after the presentation to talk to Salazar and to take pictures with him. Some of the students even spoke with him one on one about issues they may be going through.

“Gabe brought a lot of laughter to our students and even some tears,” Lopez added. “We can’t say enough good things about Mr. Gabe Salazar.”

Salazar is originally from San Antonio and his wife, Nancy Gonzalez, is a McCollum Graduate and Harlandale ISD Hall of Famer.
