Stonewall Flanders Elementary hosts attendance incentive dinner

As a way to encourage attendance the day after Thanksgiving break, Stonewall Flanders Elementary randomly selected a student from each class Monday morning as a Dinner Winner.

All 35 Dinner Winners and their families were invited to a special spaghetti meal provided by Olive Garden at the school cafeteria on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m.

In true dinner fashion, guests confirmed their reservation and were welcomed by teachers and staff who volunteered to help out with the event. Campus volunteers set up, served and cleaned. Even parents stepped up by creating center pieces and decorations to make the event a memorable one for the Dinner Winners.

After their meal, attendees enjoyed cookies and the students received a certificate.

“We really try to promote attendance and the hardest thing is for kids to come back after a long break,” Academic Dean Kristy Suarez explained.

The hope is that this incentive will encourage students to be eager to come to school after a break.

“Once the students find out that they are the Dinner Winner, they talk about it for the rest of the week," Suarez added. "So our hope is that from here they will talk about it with their friends and that these parents will extend that information to other parents."

There will be two more Dinner Winner events this year, one after Winter Break and one after Spring Break.

Way to go, Stonewall Flanders!
