Harlandale ISD families enjoyed an evening full of learning and fun at the District Family Night Winter Wonderland held at the McCollum High School cafeteria on Dec. 6.

As part of the event, students and parents participated in hands on activities related to all areas of the district’s curriculum.

“The goal is to provide families with activities that can be used at home to reinforce academics,” Harlandale ISD Parent and Adult Education Coordinator Ruth Zambrano said.

The district’s curriculum and instruction department was on hand to guide the students and parents through an array of games and to promote family bonding through learning. Subjects featured included math, science, language arts, STEM/GT, social studies and physical education.

Information about Student Support Services, CTE, bilingual education, Girl Scouts, student library services and assessment were also available.

The event also featured a beautiful performance from the Gillette Choir and free food.

Harlandale ISD will be hosting another District Family Night in the spring.

“Family Nights are important because we want to give parents the tools needed to help their children be more academically successful,” Zambrano added.
