Gilbert ES students surprised with holiday toys

Students at Gilbert Elementary were overwhelmed with happiness when they were surprised with free holiday gifts on Dec. 20.

Local business owner Antonio Flores helped coordinate the toy delivery with the school and said all the toys were generously donated by several San Antonio donors, who wish to remain anonymous.

“I’ve known Counselor Judith Pfeifer for many years, so we reached out to her to help children in need,” he said. “So, we worked really hard yesterday to get all the toys here today.”

Children from Pre-K all the way to fifth grade were able to choose from a wide assortment of toys which included dolls, Legos, stuffed animals and board games.

“We have educational toys and a lot of name brand toys, so hopefully, they’ll be able to get what they want,” Flores added.

Shouts of pure joy and excitement filled the school’s cafeteria as the students received their brand-new toy just in time for the holidays.

“Our families work so hard to support our students, so this means everything to us,” Gilbert Elementary Principal Herlinda Martinez-Longoria said. “It’s just a great gift that we can send our kids home with a gift, along with the food box that they got yesterday, this week has been a blessing.”
