Inspired by the beloved children’s book series “Magic Tree House” books, Vestal Elementary hosted a magical Author’s Day on May 31.

At the entrance, parents and students “discovered” a magic tree filled with many books featuring different subjects such animals, nature and mythology,  and were “transported” to different time periods.

Every grade level completely transformed their hallway inspired by one of their favorite books written by Mary Pope Osborne, including “Dinosaurs Before Dark,”  “High tide in Hawaii” and “Dolphins at Daybreak.”

Students and parents were amazed by how their school looked and enjoyed learning about the different books and author.

For Vestal Principal Marianela Gonzalez-Sanchez, the purpose of Author’s Day is to show off the students and their work to their parents.

“The decorations are the first impression, but once you enter the classroom, you see something different, you see the students reading to their parents, parents reading to the child, and that is what it’s all about,” she said. “The students get very excited to show their research and artwork.”

Principal Gonzalez-Sanchez invites all parents to visit the campus since the decorations will stay until the last day of school.

“We won’t be able to celebrate Author’s Day to this scale at the new school, so we went all out this year. We hope parents come out and see it, it truly was a team effort,” she concluded.

Way to go, Vestal Elementary!
