Adams Elementary celebrates Author’s Day

Adams Elementary School hosted its first-ever Author’s Day on June 5 with the theme “It’s a Magical Day at Adams.”

Families and community members were welcomed by the school’s A-Team, Principal Leticia Cerda-Rodriguez, Assistant Principal Stephanie Cruz and Academic Dean Karen Hernandez, who were happy to showcase all the student creativity found in every grade level.

“We are excited for our first Author’s Day,” Cerda-Rodriguez said. “It’s really to help keep the students engaged and learning and having fun at the end of the year.”

As part of the celebration, every hallway was decorated in honor of the children’s favorite book authors, including Dr. Seuss, Roald Dahl, Eric Carle and J.K. Rowling.

Inside the classrooms, the students had the opportunity to present their campus-wide projects to their parents, teachers and administrators. Every grade level had to develop their own story inspired by an “Adams character trait” that they learned during the school year such as responsibility, integrity, trustworthiness and fairness.

“It’s amazing to see all the creativity that these kids have,” Hernandez said. “They wrote their story, and now they’re presenting it. Whether it is through acting, a diorama, or a model structure. They could create it however they wanted, and the results are amazing.”

Some students were dressed as different characters from their books and others read their books out loud to their parents and teachers.

“This is also a celebration of them as young authors,” Cruz added. “The kids have loved it and are so excited to show their families what they created.”

During the event, parents also received a QR code to be able to access their children’s e-books anytime.

Way to go, Wolves!
