HEF Scholarship Golf Tournament a big success

The annual Harlandale Education Foundation (HEF) Scholarship Golf Tournament held at the Republc Golf Course on Sept. 21 was once again a huge success, earning more than $25,000.

Celebrating its ninth year through 18 holes of fundraising, the tournament featured more than 70 golfers from various local businesses in San Antonio – all playing to help make a difference in the lives of Harlandale ISD students.

Every HISD senior who goes on to college, university or technical/trade school is eligible for a HEF scholarship.

To kick off the event, participants were treated to hearty breakfast, goodie bags and a HEF polo. After several hours of friendly competition, the winners were announced during a special luncheon, which included hot dogs, burgers, beans and cookies.

HISD Superintendent Rey Madrigal took the opportunity to thank all the sponsors for participating and supporting HEF’s mission of creating a college-going community at Harlandale ISD.

“Every one of you allows an opportunity for our students to move on after graduation to attend a college or university,” Madrigal said. “We appreciate your generosity, and we thank you for coming out again and supporting our annual HEF golf tournament.”

Since 1999, HEF has raised more than $1.6 million and awarded scholarships to more than 2,000 students.
