Harlandale seeks submissions for Holiday Card Contest

Calling all Harlandale ISD student artists! The Harlandale ISD Fine Arts Department invites students to submit an original piece of artwork for the third annual Holiday Card Contest.

The friendly competition is open to all current Harlandale ISD students from kindergarten to 12th grade. This year’s theme is “Peace on Earth.”

Harlandale ISD Fine Arts Coordinator Omar Leos encourages every student to participate.

“The contest gives students an opportunity to shine and show their talent,” Leos said. “Even if they think they don’t have any art skills, they should enter anyway. They can ask their teachers and/or parents for some help. There is creativity inside all of us, so they should give themselves a chance and do the best they can.”

The winning piece will be used as the official Harlandale ISD Holiday Card and will be distributed within the district including the interim superintendent’s office and School Board. In addition, the artwork will be published on the district’s website and will be shared on all social media platforms.

  • Designs should be no larger than 9x12 inches, horizontally or vertically.
  • No lettering or numbers allowed.
  • Media: paint, markers, ink, colored pencils, crayons or digital allowed.
  • No collages, glitter or 3D material allowed.
  • Reproduction will be done digitally so high contrast colors are encouraged.
  • All award-winning art becomes property of Harlandale ISD.

Submissions will be judged on creativity and how well they convey the festivity of the season. There will be three honorable mentions – Elementary, Middle School and High School – and one grand prize winner. All winners will receive art supplies and the grand prize winner will have their artwork on the Harlandale ISD Holiday Card.

All entries must be submitted by Nov. 8 to the Fine Arts Office, located at 102 Genevieve Dr. For questions or more information, please contact Omar Leos at (210) 989-4395 or email at omar.leos@myhisd.net.
