Harlandale ISD hosts Mobile Food Pantry

Harlandale ISD hosted a Mobile Food Pantry, sponsored by the San Antonio Food Bank (SAFB), at the Sosa Parent Education Center on Oct. 29.

The cold temperatures and rainy weather conditions did not stop the Harlandale ISD volunteers from coming together to distribute the bags of food to all the families.

Approximately 200 families drove up and received a total of 10,000 pounds of food, which included sausage, cookie dough, granola, fruits, vegetables and a variety of canned food items.

“It was such a great feeling to work with so many wonderful people from social workers, CIS staff and community members to Sosa staff and Jewel Wietzel students,” HISD Social Work Facilitator Brian Jaklich said. “Everyone involved stepped up and jumped in wherever they were needed.”

Jaklich is grateful for the partnership with the SAFB and hopes there will be more food pantry events in the future.

“Our goal is to continue these in order to benefit those in our community, as well as to say thank you for sharing their children with us on a daily basis,” Jaklich concluded.
