HHS Theatre debuts ‘High school Musical’ with new ticketing service

Harlandale High School Theatre cast and crew is gearing up to debut “Disney’s High School Musical” on Nov. 21-23.

Based on the popular Disney movie, the high-energy production tells the story of basketball team captain Troy, played by senior Seth Espinosa, and brainy new student Gabriella, played by freshman Olivia Garces, who decide to join forces to audition for the high school musical and shake up the “status quo” of East High School. In the land of jocks, brainiacs and skater dudes, the students must deal with issues of first love, friends and family while balancing their classes and extracurricular activities.

“We decided to go big this year,” Harlandale HS Theatre Director Analisa Leos Garcia said. “The school hasn’t done a musical in years, so we’re excited to tell the story of these two characters who get their community and friends to understand that they can be more than just one thing.”

Leos Garcia was proud to announce that other school departments are also collaborating as part of the production.

“I hope everyone checks out the talent that we have here at Harlandale and check out how much effort all of our students and staff in various organizations from athletics, dance and choir to drumline and ROTC are putting into this collaboration,” Leos Garcia added. “It is a student designed set, and we will also have a few staff members join the students on stage, so we’re very excited.”

Adapted for young performers, this musical includes favorite “High School Musical” songs such as “When There Was Me and You” and “We’re All in This Together.”

Garcia Leos hopes the show’s inspiring message of friendship, catchy songs and exiting dance routines are sure engages all the audiences.

Along with the musical production debut, HISD Fine Arts is also introducing for the first time ever an online ticketing service in an effort to simplify and increase ticket sales via hisd.booktix.com.

“This new ticketing system is a more efficient way to sell tickets fast and more up to par with how you buy tickets generally out in the public,” Harlandale ISD Fine Arts Coordinator Omar Leos said. “The goal is to have as much pre-sale tickets as possible. We hope that this new ticketing system will also be used throughout the district and at other events.”

Performances will take place Nov. 21 – 23 at 7 p.m. in the Harlandale HS Auditorium. Pre-sale tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and tickets at the door at $12 for adults and $9 for students.
