Harlandale ISD held its third Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting at the Sosa Parent Education Center on Nov. 22.

Parents, who were selected by campus principals to represent their school, gathered around to discuss items on the agenda such as holiday events, school safety initiatives and the extended day programs.

During the meeting, the Harlandale ISD Family and Adult Education Coordinator Sylvia Servin focused on promoting safety in the district. Parents had the opportunity review several new safety features and talk about which would be most beneficial to implement at their campuses.

The newly appointed Harlandale ISD Safety Officer Corporal Mark Olivares discussed the new Senate Bill 11, which relates to the school safety and mental health promotions in public schools. The bill aims to prevent hoax threats within the school district. Corp. Olivares recommend using the #Thinkbeforeyoupost to spread the message.

“These PAC meetings are important to our district leadership because our parent campus representatives really take an active role in the growth and success of our Harlandale community,” Servin said. “I am so grateful to work alongside such a passionate group of parents that assist these meetings every month and help give a voice to their school and community.”
