  1. When will Harlandale ISD schools close?
    1. All Harlandale ISD schools will be closed on March 16-April 3.

       

  2. Will all UIL, after school and extracurricular events be cancelled?
    1. All UIL, after school and extracurricular activities have been cancelled until further notice.

       

  3. What other major school events may be cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19?
    1. During our district closure, previously scheduled major events are cancelled such as field trips, festivals, parades, prom, etc. We will keep you posted on other cancellations or postponements of future UIL, co-curricular, extracurricular, and major events.

       

  4. Will there be a travel screening form for staff who enter a campus or district facility?
    1. A travel screening form was developed and sent to all staff who travelled to complete. At this time anyone who traveled to CDC identified high risk areas, who traveled on a cruise, who have flu-like symptoms,or who may have been exposed to the Covid-19 virus are being asked to self-quarantine for 14 days.

       

  5. Can HISD staff come onto a campus or a district facility during the district closure?
    1. All Harlandale ISD campuses and facilities are restricted to all staff unless approved by their supervisor.

       

  6. Will the STAAR test still be administered for the remainder of the year?
    1. No, according to the Texas Commissioner of Education, Mike Morath, ALL STAAR testing is cancelled for the remainder of the school year. Student learning continues to be our priority in Harlandale ISD. During this time, we are committed to using innovative methods to provide continuous instruction for our students from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade.

       

  7. What Harlandale ISD staff are required to report to work during the weeks of March 16- April 3?
    1. Only staff members who have been instructed by the superintendent or their immediate supervisor will report to work on identified days. During our district closure, we are asking staff to please be “on call” during regular business hours.

       

  8. Will HISD provide breakfast and lunch for students?
    1. Yes, students can walk-up or drive-up and receive a Grab and Go meal at any middle school campus beginning Monday, March16th through Friday, April 3 (weekdays only).
      1. Breakfast from 7:00 am – 8:30 am
      2. Lunch from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

         

        Student ID’s are not required for a meal pick up; however, student(s) need(s) to be present to receive a meal.

         

  9. When will teachers receive information on student instructional materials?
    1. All PK-12 teachers will participate in virtual academic planning for school closure on Friday, March 20.

       

  10. When will parents and students be able to pick up instructional materials?
    1. Parents and students can begin to access academic resources online through the Single Sign-On (SSO) with district log in beginning Monday, March 23, 2020. If you do not have an electronic device, you may check one out at your home campus on Monday, March 23, from 9:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m. Parents and students may pick up student work at their home campus on Monday, March 23, from 9:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m.

       

      Completed instructional materials and student work can be dropped off on Wednesdays 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at your child’s home campus.

       

  11. Will students need to make up school for the days the schools are closed?
    1. Since we are providing instructional continuity and working from home - we do not believe we will have to make up these days. We communicate daily with the Texas Education Agency and will release this information as we receive it.

       

  12. Where can I enroll in school or pick up a copy of my transcript during the school closure?
    1. All students who need to enroll in school or obtain a copy of their transcript should email melissa.casey@harlandale.net.

       

  13. Will all staff be paid during the days the district is closed?
    1. A resolution is being considered at Monday’s board meeting that would allow all full-time employees to continue to get paid on days they are asked to stay home or work from home. If approved, YES, all employees will continue to get paid.

       

  14. What staff will report to work? All staff is expected to be “on call” during regular business hours.

  • Business - Specific staff will be instructed to report by their supervisor

  • Custodial - Specific staff will be instructed to report by their supervisor
  • Human Resources - Specific staff will be instructed to report by their supervisor
  • Instructional Coaches - Virtual Meetings and Planning; Collect instructional materials and devices on Thursday
  • Police Department - Specific staff will be instructed to report by their supervisor
  • Maintenance - Specific staff will be instructed to report by their supervisor
  • Principals - Principals report to campus and virtual meeting on Thursday, March 19 and Report to campus Monday, March 23
  • Public Relations - Specific staff will be instructed to report by their supervisor
  • Special Programs - Specific staff will be instructed to report by their supervisor
  • Counselors, Social Workers, Librarians – Specific staff will be instructed to report by their supervisor
  • Nurses – Virtual Meeting March 19 & March 20
  • All Para Professionals – Specific staff will be instructed to report by their supervisor
  • Teachers - Virtual planning meetings Friday, March 20
    • Collect instructional materials and devices on Thursday;
    • *MHS teachers collect instructional materials and devices on Friday
  • Technology - Specific staff will be instructed to report by their supervisor
  • Transportation - Specific staff will be instructed to report by their supervisor

     

  • How can I get up to date information related to the COVID-19 school closures and other information?

  • We understand that things are changing by the minute. Harlandale ISD continues to follow the guidelines of our local, state health agencies to determine any future course of action. Updates will be posted on all HISD social media platforms and district website
