Bellaire ES students take a ride aboard the ‘Storybook Express’

All aboard the Bellaire Storybook Express! Students, parents and teachers took a ride through seven holiday-themed books during Bellaire Elementary School’s Literacy Night on Dec. 13.

Families were welcomed with a special choir performance before entering the “Bellaire Storybook Express.” At every “stop,” students participated in fun and engaging literacy activities inspired by their favorite holiday books.

The children learned fun rhyming words at “The Night Before Christmas,” enjoyed reading time at “Pete the Cat Saves Christmas,” and created festive ornaments at “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

Bellaire ES Teacher Veronica Sanchez expressed the importance for parents to interact with their children during literacy night.

“It’s important for students to experience literacy outside of the classroom,” she said. “Tonight’s literacy night is a fun way to put a spin on what the kids are learning in the classroom and tie it with the holidays, which makes it very memorable for them.”

The children made their way to multiple stations, and after completing each activity, they received a stamp on their “boarding ticket.” After seven stamps, they were all treated to delicious cookies and hot chocolate.
