Bellaire Elementary hosts first Author’s Day

Bellaire Elementary celebrated their very first Author’s Day on May 22. The theme revolved around different children’s book authors such as R.L. Stine, Eric Carle, Mo Williems, Dr. Suess and many more.

This event was a new and exciting way for students to share their reading progress and writings with the community and to hear from guest authors.

“The students are super excited and eager to share their writings that they have been working on all year long,” Bellaire Elementary Principal Leticia Rodriguez said. “And of course the teachers are very excited to show their students’ writing and the improvement that they’ve made from the beginning of the year to now the end of the school year.”

The campus featured two talented guest speakers; Jeff Anderson and Dr. Carmen Tafolla.  Both speakers read one of their short stories to students and discussed how reading and writing helped them become the person they are today.

As you walked down each hallway you would see a different book come to life. One hallway was decorated as the scary Goosebumps books written by R.L. Stine with creepy characters at every corner. Meanwhile, another hallway giant brown bears from Eric Carle’s ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?’ running down the walls.

“I think this is a little way to let you into our school and show you what we’re about,” Rodriguez added. “There is a lot of hard work and learning and growing that went into this event. And I’m very proud to be a part of this school.”

Author’s day will be an annual event for Bellaire Elementary and the entire campus can’t wait for next year.
