A special event was recently held at Collier Elementary School to motivate students to develop strong literacy skills.

The school hosted a Literacy Night on Oct. 4, where students and parents were invited to attend and take part in an assortment of activities intended to introduce children to the joys of reading.

“All the activities tonight were planned to reinforce everything about literacy,” Collier Elementary Principal Patricia Garcia said. “There are vocabulary activities, games, and our teachers are also here to read stories.”

Open to all grade levels, the event kicked off with a library tour, and then students made their way to the cafeteria to enjoy a hot dog and juice before joining the fun at each table.

Principal Garcia’s goal is to help every child enhance their reading ability using interactive activities and increasing parent involvement.
