HISD students spread holiday cheer with performance

STEM Early College High School’s Glee Club, the RattleTones, performed at Palo Alto College’s annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 14.

Wearing colorful Santa hats, all 10 members of the Glee Club performed “Jingle Bells,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Let it Snow,” “Feliz Navidad” and “Rudolph the Red–Nosed Reindeer.”

Students and their families got into the holiday spirit while they enjoyed the performance and drank a cup of hot chocolate. Kids were also seen singing along to every song.

This was the second time that Palo Alto has invited the RattleTones to perform; however, only three students participated last year. The majority of the current members are freshman, so the ceremony was their Glee Club debut.

“Since we’ve practiced every day for the past two weeks, all of our singers were extremely excited to perform as a group for the first time,” STEM ECHS student Esmeralda Castillo said. “We were more organized and prepared to perform this year, and I loved being able to lead the talented singers at STEM ECHS.”

STEM ECHS teacher Hilda Garcia was proud to see her students perform.

“They brought joy to this festivity,” she said. “They’ve been practicing very hard and did a good job!”

The performance was followed by the unveiling of beautiful Christmas lights displayed all over the college’s campus.
