Harlandale ISD celebrates School Board Recognition Month

In honor of School Board Recognition Month, Harlandale ISD celebrated its Board of Trustees with a special dinner held at the McCollum HS library on Jan. 22.

As elected officials, President Juan Mancha, Vice President Esequiel ‘Zeke’ Mendoza, Secretary Christine Carrillo and members David Abundis, Ricardo Moreno, Carlos Quezada and Jesus Tejeda are the voice of our community, serving in the best interest of all Harlandale ISD students.

The Board of Trustees are “Planting Seeds of Success” in our district, which is why that is the theme for this year’s Board Appreciation Month. They are Harlandale’s best volunteers because they serve and give their time, energy and council to the district – without pay.

The night kicked off with McCollum HS seniors Romeo Fernandez and Lexie Rodriguez welcoming the board members, administrators and principals. Together, they all enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared and served by Harlandale ISD’s Child Nutrition Department.

Afterwards, Harlandale ISD Superintendent Rey Madrigal took a moment to thank the Board of Trustees and presented them with a beautiful gift basket.

“Our elected board members along with their families make personal sacrifices and spend countless hours without compensation to establish school policies that reflect our community’s belief in public education,” Madrigal said. “The decision they make enhance opportunities for our students and their success. We extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to our Board of Trustees.”

Following the dinner, the board members received a certificate of recognition for their dedication to the Harlandale ISD at the School Board Meeting.

Harlandale ISD schools and students are also celebrating School Board Recognition Month by posting messages of appreciation on their campus marquees and sending colorful “thank you” cards to each board member every week.
