The Harlandale Independent School District has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).  The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and this is the 25th consecutive year the Harlandale ISD has been recognized.

According to the GFOA, Harlandale ISD’s CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The Harlandale ISD Finance Division, led by Assistant Superintendent of Finance Richard Hernandez, strives to build trust within our community by maintaining transparency in district financial management practices. Procurement is an important part of that, and this recognition demonstrates the department’s commitment to quality service and good stewardship of district resources.

“We are extremely proud of our team for their hard work and for earning this award,” Hernandez said. “This award celebrates the organizational excellence, overall professionalism, and innovation in procurement practices of Harlandale ISD. It also speaks of the amazing support we receive from our school board and district leadership by providing us the tools needed to do our job.”

In receiving the award, Harlandale ISD Superintendent Rey Madrigal pointed out that this type of recognition exemplifies the great work hardworking teams can achieve together with the help of strong leaders.

“The ongoing evolvement of business practices by Richard Hernandez and his team are the strongest benefits of receiving this award,” Madrigal said. “They are very deserving of this recognition, and we are proud of them.”
