Harlandale ISD welcomed back its annual District Honor Band Concert at McCollum High School on Dec. 15.

Family members, teachers and students gathered at the school’s auditorium to enjoy the concert. The ensembles were comprised of students from all secondary campuses in Harlandale ISD.

The students were nominated by their campus directors. Then, they participated in a blind chair test held in the evening at Harlandale High School. The music they auditioned with was taken from their region etudes. This clinic and concert was the fruition of all their hard work!

The Middle School District Honor Band was directed by Roland Sandoval, who is currently a graduate teaching assistant at UTSA after spending numerous years as a successful band director at Sandra Day O'Connor High School. The High School District Honor Band was directed by Dr. John Zarco, who is currently the director of bands at UTSA.

“Both ensembles offered an outstanding concert,” Harlandale High School Band Director Juan Carlos Rodriguez said. “The entire Harlandale ISD Band Staff came together to make this event happen.”

A special thank you goes out to Terrell Wells Middle School Band Director David Rodriguez and Leal Middle School Band Directors Christopher Barrera and Kailey Parker for serving as the band organizers. Percussion organizers were Harlandale HS Assistant Band Director Josue Solalinde and McCollum HS Assistant Band Director John Perez.

“We are grateful to McCollum High School Principal Jacob Garcia and the entire McCollum High School Administration for allowing us to use their facilities and to the McCollum High School Band Staff for being such gracious hosts,” Rodriguez concluded.
