Students and staff from the Jewel Wietzel Center took a Community Based Instruction (CBI) trip to the Magik Theater to see a play adaptation of the poem, “Twas the Night Before Christmas”  on Dec. 14.

Students and staff took the VIA bus downtown to attend the play, and for some students it was their first time riding public transportation.

“We took 24 students and 11 staff from both HOPS and the Transition program, so the VIA bus was jam-packed,” Jewel Wietzel Center teacher Luis Semidey explained.

The JWC students and staff arrived at the theater a little over an hour before the doors opened, so students were able to enjoy the Hemisfair Park and some walked to the Tower of the Americas to take pictures and to buy souvenirs and refreshments.

“We ate lunch in the park, and afterwards went inside to our great balcony seats! The students really enjoyed the play,” Semidey said.

After the play, the students were able to meet all the actors, take pictures and enjoyed paletas from a local Paleteria.
