MHS instructor wins Jon Wayne Fan of the Year contest

McCollum High School Senior Army Instructor LTC(R) Charles Burton was named the Jon Wayne Fan of the Year and won a $25,000 home make over.

The instructor was surprised with the big news surrounded by administrators, teachers, students, film crew members, Sports2Nite hosts and President of Jon Wayne Service Company Don Rackler.

Col. Burton was entered into a random drawing when he participated in the Jon Wayne Player of the Week voting contest and voted for McCollum High School quarterback Ryan Ramirez back in November. Burton was randomly selected over 20,000 people who voted in the contest.

“I’m speechless. I thank everybody involved,” Col. Burton said. “I’m honored to work here. Our quarterback is a great kid, and it was a pleasure to vote for someone like him.”

Rackler was happy to personally present the check to Burton for his home makeover.

“It’s an honor and privilege for us to be able to participate with the schools at this level and get the kids and faculty involved,” Rackler said. “This was just a random drawing, and it was just really great that he’s a veteran and school teacher, and we were able to honor him this way.”
