Rayburn Elementary School students erupted in cheers when McGruff the Crime Dog entered the school’s cafeteria for a Red Ribbon Rally on Oct. 26.

McGruff accompanied San Antonio Police Department officers to celebrate Red Ribbon Week, taking place Oct. 26-31, and teach students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

The young children were encouraged to live a drug-free and lifestyle. The officers also shared a few Halloween safety tips to ensure they have a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience.

“We have this rally every year to teach our kids to take a stand against drugs,” Rayburn Elementary Counselor Nichole Nava said. “The kids love seeing McGruff! It gets them excited to learn and say no to drugs and alcohol, which is our primary goal.”

At the end of the presentation, the entire school took a pledge to grow up safe, healthy and drug-free!

Way to go, Rayburn Elementary!
